Residual Continuum (residualcontinuum.com) is an independent archive of short films and case pages about historical mysteries. We built it to be read, not to watch its readers. This page explains, in plain words, what little data is involved.
What the site does not do
- No accounts or sign-ups, and no advertising.
- No cookies, no third-party analytics and no advertising trackers.
- We do not sell, rent or share personal data with anyone.
How we count visits
We count visits ourselves, so that we know which films and pages people find useful. The count uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device. For each visit we keep only totals: the page, the kind of website that sent you (just its name, such as instagram.com or a search engine), the country our host reports, the kind of device (phone, tablet or computer) and how long the page stayed open.
To count how many different people visit in a day, your IP address and browser type are mixed with a secret that changes every day into a short code that cannot be turned back into either. The IP address itself is never stored. The code is kept for ten minutes, to show how many people are on the site right now, and then deleted; it means nothing the next day. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, we do not count your visit at all. Daily totals are kept for about thirteen months, and a running total of visits is kept as a single number.
What stays in your browser
Your light or dark theme choice, and similar display preferences, are saved in your own browser's local storage. They never leave your device, and you can clear them at any time.
The site assistant
If you ask the assistant a question, the text of your question is sent to an AI model through OpenRouter so that an answer can be written. Please do not type personal information into it. We do not keep a history of questions beyond the short-lived technical logs of our host.
The contact form
If you write to us through the contact form, your message, and a reply address if you choose to give one, are emailed to the editor through the email service Resend. We use them only to read and answer your message.
Videos on the Watch page
The Watch page plays our own films with YouTube's player in its privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play. Once you do, YouTube receives the standard request data it needs to play the video, as described in the Google Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
Hosting
The site runs on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel processes standard request data (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver pages and protect the service from abuse.
Our social media accounts and the publishing tool
We publish our own films on our own accounts on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X. A private publishing tool on this site connects only to those accounts of ours, through each platform's official API, to upload our films with their captions and to read basic statistics about our own posts. It does not collect, store or process data about viewers or any other users. The access tokens for our accounts are stored encrypted and can be revoked from each platform's settings at any time.
Our use of YouTube API Services is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service (www.youtube.com/t/terms) and the Google Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy). Access can be revoked through the Google security settings page (myaccount.google.com/permissions).
Children
The site is a general audience archive and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
